PoolResources: Profile

Hi, thank you for checking-out my profile.
----------------------------------------- My real name is not Pool Resources; it is Paul Crosland.
----------------------------------------- You can borrow anything I own. (Three items per person).
----------------------------------------- Please borrow from me and lend to others.
----------------------------------------- I also use this site to record the things I want to buy with others; keeping my costs down and strengthening my local connections.

If you find an item on my list of stuff marked with four asterixes (****); this is something I use almost every day, or would, for some other reason imagine it to be difficult to lend this item out for more than a short period.

If by offering my stuff for lending, you decide that you want to buy something, all the money goes to my favourite charity, the Karuna Trust: www.karuna.org.
The Karuna Trust works mostly in India, supporting dignity and opportunity amongst those born as Dalits.
Dalits were formerly called 'untouchables' by an on-going oppressive caste discrimination).

At present I'm keen to sell most of my stuff and create more living space.
Cheques/cash goes to the Karuna Trust whenever I:
- sell an item
- put something I own into fractional ownership (ie sell a share in what I own)
- or rent out an item on letsallshare.com

I divide my stuff into these categories:
1) A few things that are of most value to me (12 books, A bicycle, Panniers, Lights, Battery recharger, Some Clothes, Bedding, A computer, iPhone, A Buddha Rupa)****
2) Things to which I'm less attached, but am not ready to let go permanently.
3) Things of which I would be glad to let go, so long as the letting go is done in a way that is as 'responsible' as I can presently be in how I let these things go.
4) Things which letting go of is more important than how I do it.
Most of my items (I think) are in category 3; I will now test this theory, with your co-operation.

Anything that I want to sell you could just borrow off me, if you prefer. Your choice.
Many things I'm keen to lend out long-term (eg a year); including an inflatable canoe, beds, computers etc.

Sometimes I'll ask for a deposit or proof of ID; a bit like at a library. I'll use more discretion and hope to make more of a connection.

For more background info about me, please go to www.poolresources.info or the 'freelender on a bicycle' blog :www.freelenderonabicycle.wordpress.com

I'm trying to get more than 1000 items out of my house by the end of May 2010; many of them books. The rule I've set myself (as someone trying to find the most 'responsible way' of giving away) is that of my free items, you can take up to 3 per visit to my house. (Visiting during daytime hours preferred.)By only giving away three items at a time, I hope you'll choose what is most useful to you, and that more people will pick things up & share the benefits of being part of freelender.org -the benefits from giving stuff away, receiving other's giveaways, lending & borrowing.
If you actually want to help me sort through my stuff & put it all on freelender.org (so that everyone knows what's available) that would be appreciated too, and you'd have first pick of up to 3 giveaways per day.

There are others nearby who also want to make their stuff more available, so help with getting their items onto freelender.org also appreciated.

I'm trying to practice 'responsible lending' interspersed with outbreaks of spontaneous generosity, and whatever happens, I'm keen to learn from, whether people choose to share, or not.
